It matters less what you cut out, and more about how many calories you consume. If you are eating 1500 calories a day of carbs/sweets but eating 2300 calories a day of really healthy foods, you'll stand a better chance of losing weight with the lower calorie option.
Don't cut carbs from your diet. It's not healthy...just change the ones you eat. Eliminate 'white' carbs (white bread, pasta, rice, refined sugar, etc). Switch to whole grain products like wheat or whole grain breads, wheat pasta, sweet potatos, brown rice, wheat tortillas, etc...and keep to minimal servings a day (don't have carbs with every meal).
Carbs are what give us quick energy...the body uses it shortly after we consume it. We need that quick energy, but we don't need as much of it as we consume (in many cases) and especially with the simple carbs, the body tends to turn them to sugar and then store any extra as fat.
Eat lean protein, fruits and veggies, healthy carbs, healthy fats, and drink lots of water....add to that exercise at least 5 days a week (shoot for at least 1 hr a day) and you'll be on your way!
Any loss over 3 lbs/wk is considered too fast. Keep it between 1 - 3 per week, and when you reach your goal then continue eating healthy and exercising (although you can cut back if you like) to maintain your goal weight.
Good luck! Link Here to more info
